Photographs taken in the County of Northumberland
These are guidelines and hints, not strict rules or definitions.
For this competition all branches of the natural world, for example: –
animal, bird, insect, plant, geology, natural phenomena (eg: extreme weather )
are eligible but not subjects such as: –
anthropology, archaeology, general landscape, domestic or farm creatures, hybrids, mounted specimens, cultivated plants or formal arrangements.
Try to avoid captive creatures where the cages or other forms of captivity are obvious. Scientific tags, bands and collars on wild creatures are fine.
The story-telling value of the picture should be more important than any pictorial elements but technical quality should be as high as possible.
Humans would not normally be present except when they form an integral part of the story.
Photographic processes should not be used to add, delete, replace or relocate elements in an image but processes and techniques may be used to enhance the presentation of the image so long as the adjustments look natural and the nature content is not changed. Monochrome images are also permitted.
Below are a few guidelines...
Texture - the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance
- the surface detail of an object. This detail can be composed of surface irregularities (such as the wood grain of an old plank) or of small forms on a surface (such as a mass of roots from an ancient tree).
Pattern - a repeated design or shape
Geometry - relationships of points, lines, angles and surfaces
Images may include one or more of the above.
Both Colour and Monochrome are permitted
