Current Pattern

The Current Pattern section of the Pattern Builder dialog provdes access to the pattern currently selected from the library (or a new pattern) for editing.

Pattern Current

The dialog provides the following items:

Name: The name for the pattern.
Start on: The current version of PhatPhish only supports patterns which start on the first degree.
Pattern Steps:

Defines the notes used within the pattern. At each step there are four options:

  • Stop - the pattern stops here
  • Repeat last note - the previous note in the pattern is repeated
  • Go up to... - moves up to the note selected from the list
  • Go down to - moves down to the note selected from the list

Note that within the Pattern Builder, notes within a pattern are numbered as absolute values within the scale (1 to 11). Therefore a pattern could be defined which refers to notes which are not compatible with the currently selected scale (for example, a riff containing '11' would work with a chromatic scale, but not with a major scale; a riff containing a '3' would play a 3 degree if the current scale is a major scale, or a b3 degree if the current scale is a minor scale.

Preview (Up): Plays the current pattern using the currently selected scale, in a ascending pattern.
Preview (Down): Plays the current pattern using the currently selected scale, in a descending pattern.
Save: Saves the current pattern back intot he pattern library. Note that changes to the pattern library are not made permanent until the OK button on the Pattern Builder dialog is clicked.
Undo: Cancels any changes made to the current pattern and reverts to its original settings.
Unload: Unloads the current pattern.
